Asari Upholstered Work Chair by Herman Miller®

Sigma Mobile File

From designer Naoto Fukasawa, Herman Miller presents their most beautiful, ergonomic soft seating to date - Asari®. The Asari Chair by Herman Miller can sit in repose in your home office, be a welcome respite at the workplace, or simply occupy a corner with its quiet comfort. The chair was initially conceived as a sculpture and inspired by organic forms found in nature. By introducing crafted Maharam materials and unique color flood options, it’s designed to accent or understate.

Layered, contoured foam provides the initial comfort you get from an upholstered chair and integrated flexible rims and panels provide the long-term benefits you expect from task seating. The PostureFit, which adjusts to the lower back’s contours, fills the void that exists between the lower back and the back of the chair—all while promoting the natural alignment of the spine. Tailored for you, a synchronous, self-adjusting tilt provides natural movement, while the seat pad minimizes pressure points and provides support.

 Features:

  • PostureFit - Supports the Sacral Region to nurture the natural S-shape of the spine and activate a healthful posture.
  • Self-Adjusting Synchronous Tilt - Ergonomically supports a wide range of users without the need to adjust. Great for different environments.
  • Contoured Seat - Layered foam of different densities on a contoured seat pan with flexible rims and panels ensures minimal pressure points
  • Color Flood Options - Base, arms and chair body available in one hue.
  • Fixed and Height Adjustable Arm Options - Adjustable arms puts them at just the right comfort height

The needs of our workspaces have evolved, whether it’s in the home, office, or any combination of the two. Asari brings out the best in both locations. The Asari Chair brings the best of your office home with a self -adjusting ergonomic seat. In turn, the office becomes an experience that feels more like home instead of merely a location. The chair’s visual and physical comfort is evident and welcoming and offers personalization and expression through leather and fabric options. It is sculptural form and everyday function, the best of both work worlds.

The Asari Chair by Herman Miller is beautiful in its simplicity, with a form that welcomes you with its gentle curves and upholstered frame. Hidden inside are innovative ergonomics.

Designed by Naoto Fukasawa

Sigma Mobile File

Naoto Fukasawa was born in Yamanashi, Japan, in 1956 and graduated from Tama Art University in 1980. His career began at Seiko Epson, where he designed products such as wrist TVs and mini printers using micro-technology.

Fukasawa has worked on product development for many well-known brands and companies around the world, winning numerous awards for his efforts. His affiliation with Magis produced the Déjá-vu family of home furnishings, which is distinguished by its use of D-shaped aluminum extrusions. “This one distinctive extrusion enabled us to create a whole family of products,” says Fukasawa.

Asari is Fukasawa’s first design for Herman Miller. He designed the Saiba collection and Axon tables for Geiger, the Déjà-vu Collection for Magis, and Pao lighting for HAY. He is known for his product design work with Muji and has collaborated with other companies such as Alessi and Emeco.

About Herman Miller

Founded in West Michigan in 1905, Herman Miller has grown to become a world-recognized furniture brand. As a design leader and furniture innovator, they’ve partnered with some of the most influential and iconic designers of the 20th century—designers like Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Girard and more. In doing so, they’ve produced pieces that have become classics of industrial design, many of which are featured on permanent display in museums like the New York Museum of Contemporary Art (MoMA).

Herman Miller continued that legacy in 1994 by partnering with designers Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick. They went about developing an office chair unlike any before it. Bringing together the latest in ergonomic research and design, they developed the legendary Classic Aeron chair, the best selling office chair in the world.

Today, Herman Miller continues that tradition of design forward thinking and innovation. Partnering with the next generation of industrial designers—such as Studio 7.5 and Yves Behar— as they tackle the ergonomic and anthropometric challenges we face in today’s modern work life.

Care & Maintenance

With regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller product will provide many years of superior performance and satisfaction. Vacuum fabric as needed, using an upholstery attachment. Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Do not use steam. For fabric stains, use a water-based cleaner (specifically made for cleaning fabric) or a solution of mild (alkaline) warm soapy water (not overly soapy) applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. If leather is soiled, it can be wiped with a soft damp cloth using a lather of any mild soap with lukewarm water. Do not spot clean leather; clean the entire surface.

Warranty

Asari Work Chairs come with a 12-year Herman Miller warranty. This warranty is a promise that Asari lives up to the highest standards in the industry. If for some reason the chair fails to live up to this standard, Herman Miller will ship and repair it at no cost to you. To learn more read the Herman Miller Warranty.
