Eames Aluminum Group Armchair by Herman Miller
Leather Upholstery
designed by Charles and Ray Eames
At A Glance:
Herman Miller introduced the Eames Aluminum Group in 1958 as Charles and Ray Eames' response to the need for high-quality indoor-outdoor furniture. It soon moved inside exclusively. Herman Miller celebrates the chair that came in from the cold. Available in management, executive and side chair models, this design remains a classic of style and comfort.
This graceful, yet industrial side chair utilizes a lightweight aluminum frame with suspended upholstery, 4-star base with glides and a swivel mechanism. Or, choose a fixed base. The leather options provide luxuriously comfortable seating.
This is the kind of chair that belongs across the desk from the boss, or in a conference room where some serious work gets done. Of course, this is also a flexible chair, and it doesn't have to be used in the workplace. It's also right at home in your living room or home office, and will end up being the favorite seating destination of many of your guests.
What's To Like:
This is perhaps the most balanced, most tastefully designed of all the Eames Aluminum Group chairs. The side chair has the same curve in its back as the rest of them, but with a slim profile unmarked by tilt mechanism, has a poise and grace inherently present. This is a comfortable, stylish chair.
The Bottom Line:
This chair is an example of perfect design. When Charles and Ray Eames made a piece of furniture, they were often trying to make something multipurpose like the LCW or the molded plastic chairs, or else something "perfect" for a certain task, like the Eames Lounge Chair and the Eames Aluminum Group Side Chair. These were chairs that used innovative techniques and materials to create something perfectly tailored to a need. This is a chair that works equally well in the office and at home. With both substance and style, the Aluminum Side Chair is a classic design from Charles and Ray Eames.
