Child's Womb Chair by Knoll
designed by Eero Saarinen
The Child's Womb Chair and Ottoman, designed in 1948 by one of the greatest furniture makers to ever ply his craft, was made especially for Knoll. The owners of Knoll knew that Saarinen could produce a chair of genius, taste, and comfort, and he didn't disappoint. The Child's Womb Chair and Ottoman are one-of-a-kind chairs, designed with attention to detail, beauty, and formal and functional excellence. The shape and contour of the Child's Womb Chair was groundbreaking, as was it's attention to comfort at the exclusion of contemporary design cliches. The main material used in constructing the structure of the chair was fiberglass, a bendable and giving material suited to chairs that hope to welcome their users. With its polished chrome base and a frame upholstered in fabric over a fiberglass shell, the Child's Womb Chair and Ottoman is designed to facilitate a relaxed sitting posture, providing emotional comfort and a sense of security - hence the name "Womb." The Child's Womb Chair and Ottoman are rightly celebrated designs, and have sold for more than half a century. Upholstered in a variety of colors, the Child's Womb Chair is perfect for any home.
The Child's Womb Chair and Ottoman has a steel wire base with a polished chrome finish or matte black powder-coat. There is foam over a molded, reinforced fiberglass shell on the chair. The Child's Chair is 75 percent scale of the standard Womb Chair.
