Nakashima Straight Chair by Knoll
designed by George Nakashima
The Nakashima Straight Chair is one of the most recognizable chairs in the world. Composed perfectly, balanced exquisitely, and made with nothing but the greatest craftsmanship and care, the Nakashima Straight Chair is the fitting legacy of a great designer. A man who loved to work with wood, Nakashima conceived the Straight Chair as a paean to the woods. The Nakashima Straight Chair is made from solid American Walnut and Hickory and features the designer's signature and KnollStudio logo on the underside.
Nakashima, a wood craftsman and poet, studied architecture at the University of Washington in Seattle, the Ecole Americaine des Beaux-Arts Fontainebleau in France and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Nakashima received the gold medal for craftsmanship from the American Institute of Architects and the Hazlett Award.
The Nakashima Straight Chair is constructed from solid American Walnut, turned American Walnut legs and stretchers, and contrasting Hickory spindles, clear low-sheen finish and nylon glides.
